CRYSTAL FALLS—Forest Park’s girls team finished second and the boys were fifth during the Skyline/CUP Conference championship golf tournament, which was played May 20 at the George Young Golf Course.
The Lady Trojans’ Lexi Gussert ended up in third place in individual results with an 18-hole score of 102. She finished in a three-way tie for second place, but Munising’s Molly Matson won the tiebreak for second.
Another Mustang, Carla Nottmeier, easily won girls medalist honors with a 93. With two top golfers, Munising won the team title with a 438, ahead of the Lady Trojans (455) and Bark River-Harris (471).
Gussert was backed up by teammates Hannah Marinoff, who was sixth with a 113; Kaitlyn Bradley, eighth with 119; and Abby Sommers, ninth at 121. Toni Santi, 125, reounded out the Forest Park team.
Munising also won the boys team title with a score of 362, one stroke better than Carney-Nadeau (363). Bark River (372) took third.
Forest Park’s boys team finished fifth at 386. Kevin Stankewicz shot a 90 to lead the team, and Brett Smithson was right behind him with a 91. They were followed by Dennis Mitchell (100), Steven West (105) and Mitch Bal (106).
Carney’s Hunter Eichorn was medalist with a 74, eight strokes ahead of North Central’s Tyler Polfus (82). Mid Pen’s Brett Branstrom and Munising’s Colin Immel tied for third at 87.
• The Skyline/CUP all-conference team was selected after the tournament. The girls team included Gussert, Marinoff, Bradley and Sommers. For the boys team, Stankewicz and Smithson were selected.
