CRYSTAL FALLS - The ever-popular Summer Scares program returns for its fifth season at the Crystal Falls Library. We have three Summer Scares Book Clubs that are running concurrently—one for middle schoolers, one for high schoolers and one for adults.
Summer Scares is a reading program from the Horror Writers Association, in partnership with United for Libraries, Book Riot, Booklist, and NoveList, and they recommend the horror titles to be read each year.

The Adult 2024 selections are ‘Such Sharp Teeth’ by Rachel Harrison; ‘Jackal’ by Erin E. Adams; and ‘This Thing Between Us’ by Gus Moreno.

The Young Adult selections are ‘All These Bodies’ by Kendare Blake; ‘Dead Flip’ by Sara Farizan; and ‘#murdrtrending’ by Gretchen McNeil.

The Middle Grade 2024 picks are ‘Ophie’s Ghosts’ by Justina Ireland; ‘The Nest’ by Kenneth Oppel; and ‘My Aunt is a Monster’ by Reimena Yee.

Book Clubs will meet near the end of June, July and August to discuss each book. The authors who wrote each work typically do agree to attend the meetings via zoom. “Even if you think you do not like horror, I do hope you consider giving it a chance. I’ve really found a lot of great authors by participating in this program—and the fact that we get to meet and talk with each author via zoom really makes the books come to life!” said Library Director Evelyn Gathu.

If you would like to join one of the book clubs, please contact Evelyn by calling 906-875-3344, or by sending an email egathu@crystalfallslibrary.org.
