CRYSTAL FALLS—Iron County Sheriff’s deputies located the body of a missing Appleton, Wis., man in rural Mastodon Township on April 9. Deputies found the man, who was deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, in a wooded area south of Airport Road.
The Appleton Police Department began the search for Joseph Kennedy, a 47-year-old Appleton man, when he failed to show for work the day before. On the evening of April 9, deputies from the Florence County Sheriff’s Office located Kennedy’s vehicle near the Iron County Airport. Iron County and Florence County deputies spotted a lone set of foot prints and followed them to the location of the body.
Evidence technicians from the Iron County Sheriff’s Office examined the crime scene and processed evidence. After examination, the incident was determined to be suicide with no foul play.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Michigan State Police, the Iron County medical examiner and Nash Funeral Home of Crystal Falls.
