ASPEN, Colo.—ESPN Winter X Games celebrates its 16th year with more than 200 of the best action sports athletes vying for medals and prize money in skiing, snowboard and snowmobile.
 Winter X Games Aspen 2012, taking place Jan. 26-29, will also mark the 11th anniversary of Winter X Games in Aspen, Colo. The four-day event will take over Buttermilk Mountain at Aspen/Snowmass for daily and nightly events, all free to the public.


 Nick Baumgartner competed in the 2010 Winter Olympics and now has a sign in Bates Township, welcoming visitors to the “Home of Nick Baumgartner.”
 The former linebacker and all-American wrestler took home Snowboarder X gold last Winter X Games 2011 for the first time.
 He attributes his inspiration to win to his 7-year-old son, Landon. Shortly after his win at Winter X Games 2011, Nick went on to take home another Snowboarder X gold at the FIS World Cup in Stoneham, Canada.
 This past summer while training for this snowboard season, Nick earned MidWest Off Road Racing’s “Rookie of the Year” while competing in the Traxxas Torc Series Off Road Short Course Racing.
 Snowboarder X consists of a downhill course that is approximately 4,060-feet long with an elevation of 8,700 feet and vertical drop of 690 feet.
 The X Course includes banked turns, gap jumps, berms, flat and steep sections and ends with a 65-foot jump. Athletes start simultaneously from a starting gate positioned on an incline and race side-by-side to the finish line.
 The Snowboarder X Men’s Finals will take place Saturday, Jan. 28, on ABC at 4 p.m. ET.
