CRYSTAL FALLS/IRON RIVER — Both the Lady Wykons and Lady Trojans improved their records this past week.  The Wykons defeated Chassell on Oct. 3 ((25–9, 25–13, 25–15) and Negaunee on Oct. 5 (20–25, 27–25, 23–25, 25–22, 17–15) to improve their record to 5 –3 on the season.
In the five-set match with Negaunee, Lily De Sousa recorded an amazing 32 assists, while Danica Shamion had 39 digs and Rowyn Fiszer had 29 digs.
Coach Konnor Bjorkman was both excited and relieved after the marathon game.
“This game was played great by both teams,” she said. “We were trailing quite a few times and worked our way back.”
The Lady Trojans remain undefeated at 9–0 after victories over Norway on Oct. 5 and Superior Central on Oct. 10.
In the victory over Superior Central, the Trojans only took three sets to put away their opponent, 25–6, 25–8, 25–20.
“We played with intensity and controlled the tempo most of the game,” said coach Bobbie Jo Anderson. “Ema Stepien and Elsie Williams did a great job serving; they both had four aces.”
Charlie Larson had eight assists and three aces in the victory while Elsie Williams recorded three kills, eight assists, three digs and four aces.
“We started off great the first two sets and we played as a team,” said the Trojans’ Lauren Kudwa. “In the third set we had some unforced errors on our part. With that being said, we are ready and super excited for our upcoming games.”
