CRYSTAL FALLS — The Lady Trojans (5–12) have been a hard luck team this season. With five of their 12 losses by five points or less, Forest Park has been in the hunt in the vast majority of their games, but unable to make the critical basket in the crucial moment.

While the team has the pieces to be successful, scoring a basket at the right time has been elusive. Losses have been hard to take as the team has fought hard and had to stay positive despite losing close games.
After losing consecutive games  — Jan. 29 to Carney and Feb. 1 to Munising — by a total of 10 points, the Lady Trojans suited up for a home game against the Munising Mustangs (11–2) on Feb. 6 with a goal of getting their season back on track.

While the game got off to a slow start with the Trojans trailing 12–6 after the first quarter, the girls came alive in the second and outscored Munising to trail by only four points going into the half, 24–20. Forest Park was once again within striking distance of their opponent and their fans were excited to see them fighting for the victory.

With the teams emerging from halftime, the Trojan shots would not fall and Munising did what it has done all season: play consistently. With Forest Park scoring only four points in the third quarter to Munising’s 12, the game was slipping away. The Trojans were on the brink of losing their twelfth game of the season.

In the final frame the Lady Trojans once again came alive, but with a 12-point deficit, Forest Park never threatened their opponent despite scoring 12 points in the final eight minutes.

Junior Delaney Wagner, the Trojans high scorer with 11 points, reflected after the game.

“It has been going well compared to previous years,” she said. “I am hoping we can pull out one of those close games just to get over the hump and then win a game in districts.”
