The Lady Trojans, after battling their way back to a respectable record, were recently confronted with two of their most challenging games of the year. Facing two teams with a combined record of 20 and 4, and having to play both games on the road, the Trojans had their work cut out for them. Despite an impressive effort, Forest Park lost both games. The Lady Trojans are now in possession of a 5 and 9 record.

On Jan. 29 the Trojans visited Bark River (12-1) and despite having seven players score, including Elsie Williams who led the team with 12 in the effort, dropped the game 57 to 39. The Trojans trailed by 10 at the half, 29 to 19 and never seriously threatened to take the lead. The final score was a lopsided 57 to 39.

Three days later, on Jan. 29 the Trojans worked to get back on track but succumbed to the Wolves of Carney, 52 to 48.  Trailing by 10 at the end of the first quarter and by 13 at the half, the Trojans battled back in the second half, outscoring Carney and pulling the game into a single possession contest. Unfortunately the shot that would tie the game never fell and the comeback came up short.

Forest Park Coach Kim Bjork reflected after the loss, “We had a slow start. We were down 13 at the half and we were able to get back in the game. Our girls were more aggressive taking it to the basket in the second half and we hit some shots to get us back in it. We just couldn’t get the lead.”

Junior Kaidince Woollard came alive in the second half, driving the lane and making a number of crucial shots to keep the game close. Her 15 points, which included six of seven from the line, represented her best single game this season. Accompanied by Lilly Post who put up a season high seven and Elsie Williams who led the team with 18, the Trojans played competitively.

Lilly Post, who scored seven points on the night, saw the team playing well, but coming up short, “We’ve had a lot of close games, but I feel like we are finally starting to head in the right direction. Hopefully we can keep our energy high, have strong communication and get a few quick baskets to get the lead.”
