Coming off last season when the Trojans Varsity Team fell just one game shy of winning their District and the Forest Park eighth grade boys team won the middle school championship, the Trojans have a strong returning core of varsity players and a cadre of freshmen who are ready to contribute at the varsity level. The team is talent rich.

The talent was evident in the Trojans first game of the season when Forest Park defeated the North Central Jets on Dec. 1 by a score of 75 to 45. Clearly evident in the victory was the combination of the returning talent and the ability of the freshmen to make a meaningful contribution.

Returning from last year’s team is Junior Kevin Giuliani who has worked hard in the offseason to improve his footwork and his ability to use both his left and right hands in equal ability. The Upper Peninsula First Team Football lineman, who can be found in the weight room when not at practice, is a force under the boards. When the Trojans are able to spread their offense, teams will be challenged to defend him. Scoring 29 points in the opening game and pulling down eight rebounds, Giuliani led his team in both statistics.

Joining the team as a freshmen, Vic Giuliani, Kevin’s brother,  appeared comfortable playing at the varsity level and evolved his game from middle school to varsity without missing a beat. Vic scored 18 points for the Trojans and was third in rebounds only behind his brother, Kevin, and Junior Matthew Showers (6).

The Trojans started the game strong and continued throughout. Leading 33 to 16 at the half and 47 to 29 after three quarters, Forest Park was able to control the game on both ends of the court and handle myriad defenses with which the Jets attempted to slow the Trojan train. The game was never in question and, when the final buzzer sounded, the Trojans were credited with the first of what should be many victories this season.

“Depth is going to be one of our strengths,” stated Trojan coach Jason Price, “This is my third year and it’s great to have players who are entering their third year of varsity play as well as a number of first year varsity players who are going to contribute. We are going to be battling every day in practice and that should make the games a lot of fun!”
