LANSING – State individual income tax returns must be filed electronically or postmarked through the U.S. Postal Service by 11: 59 p.m. on Monday, April 15.

“This year, there are a lot of tax benefits on the table for Michigan’s taxpayers, including an expanded Michigan Earned Income Tax Credit for Working Families and the ‘retirement tax’ rollback,” said Deputy State Treasurer Davita Kale in a news release. “Consider e-filing or finding a reputable tax preparer to ensure an accurate return is filed and all benefits are received.”

According to a news release from the Michigan Department of Treasury, the state’s earned income tax credit for working families quintupled for the 2023 tax year, from 6% to 30%. The average refund amount is $841, according to the Treasury’s release.
Printed tax forms are available online and at public libraries, post offices, Department of Health and Human Services county offices, and Treasury field offices. More information about e-filing is available at michigan.gov/taxes/efile. Additional free tax help is available at michiganfreetaxhelp.org.
