CRYSTAL FALLS—The Iron County Board of Commissioners will join the Chamber of Commerce in appealing a U.S. Forest Service off-road vehicle trail-siting decision.

STAMBAUGH TOWNSHIP—During Stambaugh Township’s recent board meeting, Supervisor Eugene Pellizzaro reported on the Heritage Trail non-motorized pathway project.

BATES TOWNSHIP—Trustees here voted Jan. 9 to update the township garage, which has been without heat for nearly two weeks, Supervisor Grant Helgemo said.
The heater is outdated and noisy, Helgemo told supervisors during the monthly meeting. Some circuit boards in the controller are obsolete.

IRON RIVER—Organizers for The IronLine dog sled race are moving ahead with hopes of snow in the forecast.
The new winter event for Iron County will take place on Jan. 18-19, with the opening race ceremonies beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday in the downtown Iron River area.

IRON RIVER—The West End Players have set the dates for their next production – The Sound of Music which is scheduled for May 3, 4, 5 and 6 at the Windsor Center in Iron River.

IRON RIVER—    Work at Nelson Field has been given the go-ahead after the project won approval for a Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund grant.
A $49,900 grant for accessibility improvements was approved for 2014, according to a press release.

For six years, Michelle Tefft has taken her daughter, Rachel, and her friends caroling to the Iron River Care Center. Barbara Robbins is the area representative for Tipping Point Network, a group working to educate the public about genetically modified organisms.

BEECHWOOD—The Beechwood Historical Society is holding a special meeting on Jan. 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a luncheon to update the three-year business plan.
