Flivvers’ rally stops WIC

IRON RIVER—A second half switch to a man defense gave Kingsford the edge it needed Dec. 17 as the Flivvers outshot West Iron’s girls team 17-8 in the third quarter on their way to a 49-42 win at Kingsford.

 
WIC boys hold off Trojans 56-52

IRON RIVER—They only led midway through the second quarter, but Forest Park gave West Iron a tough time in boys basketball action here Dec. 11.
The Wykons had to work hard to earn a 56-52 nonconference win. It gives them a 2-0 record overall.

 
Trojans’ 2nd half earns first win

CRYSTAL FALLS—After coming close at West Iron two nights earlier, Forest Park’s boys basketball team earned its first win of the season at Rapid River Dec. 13, defeating the Rockets 53-40.
That makes the Trojans’ record 1-2 overall and 1-1 in Skyline Conference play.

 
Knights, Gremlins stop WIC

Norway’s Heather Evosevich has this rebound, but three Wykons are closing in: from left, Kylee Erickson, Emilie Christensen and Sydnie Mazurek (11) are all on the scene.
IRON RIVER—    West Iron’s girls played twice at home last week but homecourt luck was nowhere to be found.
The Wykons battled Norway into double overtime Dec. 10 but ran out of gas and lost 57-50. Four nights later, West Pac Conference power Houghton crushed WIC 57-25.

 
Branstroms batter Trojans

CRYSTAL FALLS—Two Branstroms were too many for Forest Park’s boys team in their season opener against Mid Peninsula here Dec. 3.
Cousins Brett and Chad Branstrom combined for 47 points and powered the Wolverines to a 57-47 win in both teams’ season opener. It was Forest Park’s only game last week.
