Gremlins end West Iron girls’ year at regionals

MARQUETTE—Year in and year out, Houghton’s girls basketball team is always among the best. The Gremlins lived up to their reputation here March 5, shooting 52% from the floor to bury West Iron County 70-40 in a Class C regional semifinal game.

As expected, Forest Park girls team had no trouble at all winning its third straight Class D District 127 championship on their home court last week.

 
Wykon girls earn 3rd straight district title

IRON MOUNTAIN—You’ve seen that pose before. The one with the West Iron girls basketball team triumphantly holding the District 95 trophy.
They did the pose for the third straight year Feb. 27. After getting past Stephenson 33-31 in the semifinals Feb. 25, they defeated Iron Mountain 45-30 in the title game. This week, they go to Marquette for the Class C regionals.

 
FP’s crazy February ends

CRYSTAL FALLS—That crush of games during February—10 in four weeks—is finally over for Forest Park’s boys team. It’s time for tournament basketball.
The Trojans closed out their regular season with a 61-41 loss at North Central on Feb. 26, followed by a 64-42 win at home over Republic-Michigamme on Feb. 28.

 
Hems blast WIC in finale

IRON RIVER—Yes, that score you saw last Tuesday was correct: Ishpeming blew apart West Iron’s boys team 92-43 on their home floor Feb. 26.
It’s hard to know what to make of that 49-point loss. It’s even harder to come up with a reason why it matters.
