Why Site Council made changes
To the editor:
First of all, if it weren’t for Wayne Wales, county board chairman, we still wouldn’t have a contract with DICSA concerning the Senior Center building in Iron River. There had been a prior contract, but no one knew about it. Wayne found it and had it legally redrawn. At this point, we are all involved and know what the contract is all about.

‘Promises weren’t kept’

Iron County Board Chair Wayne Wales, didn’t keep his promise to the users of the Iron River Senior Center because guess what seniors, on Friday, Nov. 16, DICSA announced major changes at the center, regarding the meals and the limited transportation program.

‘An incredible local resource’
To the editor:
No one likes to think about death and dying, but it’s something everyone will face eventually. There is an incredible resource right here in our community that provides comfort, dignity and respect to all those coping with serious or life-limiting illness.

Post 17 says thanks
To the editor:
Alfred Branchini, American Legion Post 17 of Iron River would like to thank Post 17s Sons of the Legion, Unit 17 Ladies Auxiliary, post members, the Iron River Police Department, WIC Fire Department, and especially all the trick or treaters and relatives who made this year’s Halloween parade a success.

Over the weekend, we were talking with a friend who works at a retail store about Black Friday—our new national holiday for shopping mania. She was telling us about how crazy people get—even up here, far from the big cities.
The megastores are trying to undercut one another again this year. Walmart is starting its Black Friday at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. Too bad if their employees had been looking forward to some quality family time centered around Mr. Tom Turkey and several NFL games.

‘Education cuts affect our future’
To the editor,
On the heels of next week’s presidential elections comes “American Education Week,” Nov. 11-17, celebrating quality public education.  Local educators and school staff take pride in what is accomplished for the children of our communities, given cuts in funding, limited resources and larger class sizes.

To the editor:
Not every appearance of impropriety develops into a viable conflict of interest. After all, things often are not what they seem. However, conflicts of interest can and often do develop over time without being obvious or causing an appearance of impropriety, especially when most of us are unsuspecting and wish to remain outside of snarly controversies. It’s probably that not-seeing-the-forest-for-the-trees thing.

It was just a few weeks back when a Michigan high school student made national headlines due to a vicious prank by some of her fellow students.
If you remember, she was picked by her classmates to be on her school’s homecoming court. But her fellow classmates were just having a little fun with her.
A sad story that could have been much, much worse if not for the fact that adult members of her community rallied to her defense, and made her day on the homecoming court a testimony to what’s really right with this country.
