WU to host youth hunt and other programs

IRON COUNTY—Wildlife Unlimited of Iron County will sponsor a youth hunt on Sept. 21-22. Iron County youth age 12 to 16 are eligible to participate and they do not have to have a hunter safety certificate, although it is encouraged.

LANSING— Two Michigan conservation officers responded to a complaint about a bear at approximately 11:30 p.m. Saturday in Wexford County’s Selma Township, announced the DNR.

CRYSTAL FALLS --We Energies has received approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and Michigan Department of Environmental Quality for a planned construction project at its Michigamme Falls Hydroelectric Plant, located in Mastodon Township.

Rick Commenator of Wildlife Unlimited of Iron County presents a $3,000 check to Bates Township Clerk Barbara Moncivais. The funds are to help defray costs for the handicap-accessible fishing pier at Bates Park on Sunset Lake. The project is part of the Michigan DNR Park Trust grant program.

LONG LAKE, Wis.—The Big 4+ Sportsman’s Club held their annual membership picnic at their clubhouse in Long Lake on Saturday, July 20. Over 100 people turned out to enjoy a day of trap shooting, raffles and good food.

IRON COUNTY— The central and western Upper Peninsula is most well known for trout and walleye fisheries although quality bluegill fisheries are quietly targeted especially by downstate and non-resident anglers.
