Tony Scarlassara and Gary Rose spent the day at the Wing Sport Shooting Preserve located in Crystal Falls at the Listening Inn Bed & Breakfast Lodge. Challenging covers of corn and wildlife mix with pines and poplar cut-over made perfect cover for birds and great a training situation for the dogs. The preserve is open May through January for hunting and training. Reservations are requested. For fall hunts, ringneck and blue melanistic mutant pheasants and chukar partridge can be reserved. The summer staff at Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp recently completed 10 days of training to prepare for campers this summer. The college-age staff come from near and far—as far away as California and Malaysia—and learned about safety, CPR and waterfront instruction, cooking over a campfire, unique games and practiced a lot of camp songs. Pastor Tracy Polzin, camp director, said the first campers arrive this week and will learn ways “to connect our faith to all we do.” This year’s theme is “Faith Alive.” For more information, phone 875-3697 or go to www.fortunelake.org.
