IRON RIVER—Organizers have rescheduled the IronLine dog sled race, and the change could bring more teams to Iron County’s newest winter event.
“We’re running the same event. The only thing that has changed is the date,” co-director Josh Brindle said Monday. “The only thing that’s not going to happen is the downtown start.”

M-189 project starts this spring

The “jog” on M-189, where north-south traffic has to shift to the right near the credit union building. This year’s M-189 project will straighten out the highway between Boyington and Maple streets.

IRON RIVER—The summer of 2012 will be remembered in Iron River as the year of the U.S. 2 project—when the main highway through town was closed several months and replaced with a new surface, along with new city water and sewer lines.

 
Applications for District 5 vacancy due by Jan. 18

CRYSTAL FALLS—Iron County county commissioners plan to select an interim District 5 representative by Jan. 21 so the new member can attend a state-wide training seminar.
The County Board voted Jan. 2 to accept letters of interest through Jan. 18 to fill the vacant seat.

 
Lake level dispute going back to court

STAMBAUGH TOWNSHIP—It may be the middle of winter, but the Indian Lake Association will be back in court again regarding the lake’s diminishing water level.
Stambaugh Township Supervisor Eugene Pellizzaro reported on the issue at the January meeting of the Stambaugh Township Board.

 
Caspian board studies new building costs

CASPIAN—The pros and cons of a new Department of Public Works building were discussed at the December meeting of the Caspian City Commission.
With cost estimates between $350,000 and $375,000, not including ground work, some commissioners wondered if city funds would not be better spent on city streets.
