CRYSTAL FALLS—The congregation at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church at 809 Crystal Avenue invites pets and their people to a liturgy of the Blessing of Animals.
The event will take place outside the church on Sunday, Sept. 29, at 2 p.m., with the Revs. Peg Padilla and Carolyn Orchard officiating.
“In the past this has included all animals such as pets, farm animals and the like,” said a spokesman. “It is a time to be thankful for all creation, but especially for those animals who bless our lives as our pets.”
In addition to blessing the animals, the service will include a special section to remember those pets that have died in the past year.
“Several folks showed up last year who had lost a pet and just wanted to be involved in the service. It made us realize there is a real need for that aspect of remembering our animals.”
St. Mark’s holds the liturgy as a way of not only honoring our animals but also to raise public awareness of the many homeless animals in need of homes. Anyone attending the Animal Blessing is asked to bring something that can be used by the local Northwoods Animal Shelter.
Monetary donations are greatly appreciated. Some items of need are cat and dog food and treats, paper towels, hand sanitizer and liquid hand soap. For a complete list of wish list supplies or to adopt a pet, contact them directly at 265-PETS or visit their website at petfinder.com.
