Plan ahead for trappers’ convention PDF Print E-mail

ESCANABA—The U.P. Trappers Association would like to announce its 2013 Convention/Outdoor Expo coming up on July 12-13 at the U.P. State Fairgrounds in Escanaba.
This year’s convention will include an excellent array of trapping and predator calling experts from all around the country.  Ron Leggett (member of Trappers Hall of Fame) who will demo on fox trapping, sets, techniques and lures. Harry Taylor from Maine will show how to trap marten and fisher.
Jeff Dunlap will return to the convention this year and teach on how to trap raccoon. George and Bill Porter will put on a weasel trapping demo; a good one for the kids.
Kellen Katz will be offering his tips and methods for lure-making.  Rich Clark, an agent for NAFA, will be demonstrating proper fur handling. Smiley, from FHA, will show how to properly handle the high dollar otter. Greg Schroeder, also from FHA, will demo on skinning, fleshing and stretching a variety of furbearers. 
There will also be a jewelry-making demo for the ladies – create and keep your own creation for free. It will be done by Tamie Lundborg. 
And for the predator hunters, Les Johnson of Predator Quest will demonstrate his world famous methods and techniques for calling coyotes, fox and other predators.
Also at the event will be outdoor sports equipment, crafters, gun dealers, fishing, boats, woodworking, quilters and more.   There will be free fishing and prizes for the kids at the DNR Pocket Park.
Hours are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days.  Admission is $0 for both days (16 and under free).  Food and refreshments will be available. Camping is $20 per night which includes water and electricity.  For more information contact Roy Dahlgren at (906) 399-1960 or visit www.uptrappers.com.
