CRYSTAL FALLS—Have you harvested timber in the last year or are planning to this year?
A timely “Timber and Taxes” workshop is being hosted by the Conservation District Forestry Assistance Program and Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development on Thursday, March 7, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Iron County Courthouse. The workshop takes place in the commissioners board room on the second floor of the Courthouse annex.
The program is being presented by Timber Tax expert Karen Potter-Witter, a professor at Michigan State University Department of Forestry.
It introduces the topic of federal income tax provisions related to forestland management and timber sales. It also helps forest owners make good decisions about the tax ramifications of having a timber sale.
There will also be information about Michigan’s Commercial Forest Act and the Qualified Forest Property Act.
Pre-registration is requested by March 1. The workshop fee is $20 per family for pre-registrants and $25 at the door. Call the Iron Conservation District at 875-3765 to pre-register.
The same workshop will be held March 6 at Bay College in Escanaba. Call the Delta Conservation District at 906-553-7700 for more information.
