CRYSTAL FALLS—An Iron River man has pleaded not guilty to charges that he tried to rob a Caspian gas station in January.
Michael Dean Beauchamp, 22, appeared in Iron County Trial Court for a preliminary examination.
Beauchamp waived a district Court preliminary examination and was immediately bound over to Circuit Court by Judge C. Joseph Schwedler. Beauchamp entered not guilty pleas to one felony count of unarmed robbery, one felony count of resisting and obstructing a police officer and an additional count of larceny in a building.
Because Beauchamp is listed as a habitual offender, he could face a maximum penalty of life in prison if convicted.
Beauchamp is accused of attempting to forcibly steal beer and cigarettes from a clerk at the Citgo gas station in Caspian on Jan. 27. Beauchamp was tackled, then detained by two customers until police arrived.
He remains lodged in the Iron County Jail. A pre-trial hearing has been scheduled for March 4.
