CRYSTAL FALLS—Veteran outdoor writer/photographer Richard P. Smith from Marquette will be doing a book signing at Syrjanen’s Ben Franklin in Crystal Falls on Friday, Aug. 3 in conjunction with the Humongous Fungus Festival. He will have many of his books and two DVDs he’s produced at a table in front of the store from noon to 5 p.m.
Smith has written a total of 24 books about wildlife and hunting, and 11 of those are currently in print. Among the books on sale at the store are a series of five books titled “Great Michigan Deer Tales,” each of which has a unique collection of true short stories about the biggest bucks bagged by hunters in the state, including many from the U.P. Some hunters like to read these exciting tales to get fired up for deer season, but there are also plenty of lessons to be learned from the chapters in these books that can be applied to anyone’s hunting, increasing their chances of bagging the big one.
Other deer hunting books by Smith that will be available at the signing are “Stand Hunting for Whitetails” and “Tracking Wounded Deer.”
If interested in black bears, either seeing them or how to avoid them, another book the author penned will be a valuable reference. It’s titled “Understanding Michigan Black Bear” and contains information equally valuable to hunters, hikers, campers and anglers.
