CASPIAN—The Lee LeBlanc Chapter of the Audubon Society will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, July 9, at the Iron County Museum here.
David Franzen of Phelps, Wis., will be the guest speaker.
Franzen took up bird photography after he retired from the U.S. Forest Service in 2001. He had spent the previous 25 years working in the Ottawa National Forest.
He has identified 94 species of birds in his 1 1/2-acre yard in Phelps and has pictures of most of them; including a rare painted bunting not normally seen north of Missouri and a Brewster’s warbler.
He has an even rarer shot of a songbird expelling a pellet. His slide show will also include the nesting habits of loons and ospreys. He will be happy to discuss bird photography after the slide show if anyone is interested.
The meeting is open to the public. Everyone is welcome to attend.
