Haily Aschinger and Kaylin Chitko of Laona, Wis., hold their small sunfish. Haily won fourth place in the 12 to 17 age group for the smallest fish. Fishing families gathered at Runkle Lake in Crystal Falls for the first Wildlife Unlimited of Iron County Family Fishing Day on Saturday, June 23. Youngsters cast their lines from boats on the lake, from the shoreline and off the fishing pier.

Boats were provided by Sheriff Mark Valesano, Rick Santi, Floyd Dropps and Erich Ziegler. A live fish display was provided by the DNR. WU funded the food and prizes and members hosted the event with volunteer help from the Iron County Sheriff Department, MI DNR and Northstar Ambulance Service. Eighteen legal bass were caught along with numerous sunfish, bluegill, black crappie, yellow perch and northern pike. Forty youths participated in the contest.(Bill Ziegler photo)
