Iron County 4-H Sharp Shooters Club co-hosted the 2012 state 4-H Shoulder-to-Shoulder pellet rifle tournament at the United Sportsmen’s Club in Merriman along with Dickinson County 4-H shooters. MERRIMAN—On May 19, the Iron County 4-H Shooters Club along with Dickinson County 4-H shooters hosted the 2012 state 4-H Shoulder-to-Shoulder Pellet Rifle tournament at the United Sportsmen’s Club in Merriman.
 The tournament was a result of the 2012 postal match targets shot by participating County 4-H shooting sports clubs throughout Michigan.

 The top three scores and one alternate from each club were selected by the state shooting sports coordinator of the postal matches to participate in the Shoulder-to-Shoulder tournament.
 A banquet and awards ceremony was held at the United Sportsmen’s Club after the final relay was completed. All shooters were presented with medals and certificates for their accomplishments.
 Eli Bean , a shooter on the Michigan State University squad, shot in the precision class.
 He also gave tips and a demonstration on the use of all the technical equipment required for the precision class shooter in state, national and Olympic competition. He scored a 623 –7x10.
 The sporter class shooter events had three counties represented. Ingham County was the only Lower Michigan club able to make the trip. The local Iron County 4-H Club welcomed them at the Super 8 in Iron Mountain with treats.
 The results of the Shoulder-to-Shoulder tournament are as follows:
 Precision Class - Eli Bean, Ingham County - 623
 Seniors Division - Jesse Thoreson, Iron County - 505; Libby Hansen, Iron County - 454; Alex Nelson, Iron County - 432; Joshua Pennington, Ingham County - 401; Tommy Taff, Dickinson County - 311
 Juniors Division - Aidan Saltman, Ingham County - 389; Joslyn Thoreson, Iron County - 389; Gage Gill, Iron County - 321; Warren Edington, Ingham County - 283; Michaela Steiro, Iron County - 279; David Clawson, Dickinson County - 221; Alfred Absolon, Iron County - 190; David Plumley, Dickinson County - 134
 Beginners Division - Sydney Smith, Dickinson County - 239; Katherine Erickson, Dickinson County - 174; Logan Smith, Dickinson County - 131
Aidan Saltman and Joslyn Thoreson tied for first place in the Junior Division. Joslyn Thoreson lost in a tie breaker shoot-off by one bullseye. The Dickinson County shooters swept the Beginners Division.
 Medals were awarded to the postal Match Team winners: first place, St. Clair County with a score of 1813; second place, Iron County with a score of 1705, and third place, Dickinson County with a score of 1170.
