FP JV boys win two more PDF Print E-mail

IRON COUNTY—Forest Park’s JV boys basketball team finished 2011 with a pair of lopsided wins.
 On Dec. 15, hosting Rapid River, the Trojans romped in the first half 40-6 on their way to a 68-23 win. Mitch Bal had the hot hand in the first quarter, with nine points, and Lee Graff scored seven in the second.
 Raymond Tomasik led the team with 13 points, Graff had 11, Bal added nine, Brett Smithson scored eight and Jeff Johnson added seven.


 On Dec. 19, the JVs rang out the old year with a 67-36 win over Florence before the home fans. An 18-5 second quarter boosted the Trojans to a 33-13 halftime lead.
 Tomasik scored nine in the second quarter and led the team with 15 points. Johnson had 10, followed by Nick Grabowski with nine, Graff with eight and Austin Carlson with six.
 • Fourth quarter free throws made the difference in West Iron JVs’ 45-43 loss at Houghton on Dec. 19.
 The Wykons led 22-17 at halftime and 33-31 after three quarters, but Houghton outscored them 14-10 in the fourth quarter, making all five of their free throw attempts. West Iron attempted eight in the fourth quarter but only made two.
 Andy Ridolphi led West Iron with 18 points, and Aren Newby scored 14. Anthony Rule added six.
 Back home on Dec. 22, the Wykons led Norway 24-15 at halftime and held off the Knights’ fourth quarter rally for a 46-38 win.
 Ridolphi led the Wykons with 19 points. Newby scored 10, and Ryan Rogers added seven.
 The Wykons finished 2011 by holding off Escanaba 48-46 on Dec. 29. The game was tied 15-15 at halftime, but West Iron outscored Esky 16-10 in the third quarter for a 31-25 lead—and then fought off an Eskymo comeback in the fourth quarter.
 Ridolphi scored 30 points to power West Iron to the win, including 19 in the second half. Rule added eight, with six in the third quarter rally. West Iron made 16 of 20 free throws—Ridolphi was 10 of 12.
