IRON RIVER—West Iron County Education Foundation is accepting applications for the winter 2012 semester for the Margaret Dittman Memorial Education grant.
 Interested individuals must apply by Jan. 15, 2012. Only completed applications postmarked by the deadline date will be considered.
 The grant is awarded for the 2012 semester only. The number of grant recipients and the award amount will be determined by the grant review committee.
 Grant recipients will be posted on the foundation’s website, and the names of the recipients will be released to local media for publication. The foundation will only notify the applicants selected for the grant award.


 The Margaret Dittman Memorial Education grant was established by her husband, Gene Dittman, to assist graduates of West Iron County High School of good character and in financial need to continue their education.
 “The Dittmans recognized that the rising cost of higher education has made it more difficult for individuals of modest means to advance and complete their education,” said a foundation spokesperson.
 “Through their generosity, this grant will be offered biannually.”
 Grant criteria includes: must be a graduate of West Iron County High School and currently enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution (trade/technical school, community college, four-year college or university), in need of financial assistance and good character.
 The grant application must be include the completed grant application, a current college or university transcript reflecting enrollment in the winter 2012 term, a copy of the completed Free Application for Federal Student Financial Aid (FAFSFA) and a narrative explaining the applicant’s educational goals and the circumstances of financial need.
 The narrative is limited to one page typed or word processed.
