With a 300 savage, Laura Sartori shot her first buck (left) on opening morning, Nov. 15, at 6:45 a.m. The nice 10-pointer weighed in at 190 pounds. He came in chasing a doe. Because her daughter is the assistant volleyball coach for the Forest Park volleyball team, and they went to the state semi-finals, Laura took a few days off from hunting to follow the team to Battle Creek. There was a few days in between the first and second buck, which was shot Sunday, Nov. 20, at 3:48 p.m. It was another beautiful 10-pointer. The DNR aged both of these deer at four and one half years old. Laura said, “I give a lot of the credit for the successful hunt to my husband, Jim, for his hard work on our property. He logs during the winter, has planted food plots on our land and has planted several apple trees…because of this, the deer has food all year long and that is the reason for the nice bucks.” She is no stranger to a successful hunt, with a bigger 10-pointer than these two on her wall from 1999, for which she received an award from Commerative Bucks.  “I don’t think I will be able to top this season with the two nice 10-pointers I have, so maybe I will take up bear hunting next year” (Sartori photo)
