Youth tourney - Trojans face Wykons eight times on Friday

IRON RIVER—It’s going to be Forest Park vs. West Iron County eight times this Friday, Feb. 1, as the 15th annual Youth Basketball Tournament tips off here.
    The tournament continues Feb. 2, when teams from other schools get involved.
    Admission is $1 for Friday night, with the Trojans and Wykons matching up in eight games, all at the Charles Greenlund Gym at the high school, which will be divided in half.
    Here is the Friday schedule:
    5 p.m.
    --Sixth grade boys: WIC (coached by Andy Oberlin and Joe Jochem) vs. FP (Jackie Giuliani).
    --Third grade girls: WIC (Marla Shamion, Connie Smith) vs. FP (Tom Williams, Robb Anderson, Ryan Shamion).
    5:50 p.m.
    --Fourth grade boys: WIC (Adam Ahola, Ryan Camps) vs. FP (Tim Anderson, Jackie Giuliani).
    --Third grade boys: WIC (Mike Dallavalle) vs. FP (Nicki Price).
    6:40 p.m.
    --Fifth grade girls: WIC (Marla Shamion) vs. FP (Nikki Loehr).
    --Fourth grade girls: WIC (Eric Beauchamp, Grant Erickson) vs. FP (Nicki Price).
    7:40 p.m.
    --Seventh grade boys: WIC (Bombo Alexa) vs. FP (Stephanie Neely).
    --Sixth grade girls: WIC (Connie Smith) vs. FP (Jill Wagner).
    At 8 a.m. Saturday, tournament action starts at five local gyms: two at the high school, Stambaugh Elementary, the Windsor Center and Bates School. Games will be starting every 50 minutes.
    A total of 63 teams will compete in 11 brackets in grades 3 to 8, both boys and girls: 10 from West Iron, nine from Forest Park, seven from Gladstone, six from both Kingsford and Laona-Wabeno, five from Norway, four from Baraga, three from Negaunee, two each from Marquette, Iron Mountain, Calumet and Three Lakes-Sugar Camp, and one each from Niagara, Florene, Bessemer, Painesdale Jeffers and Crandon.
    A one-time admission fee is good for all buildings: $3 for adults and $2 for students. Concessions will be available at each building.
