Wykons, Trojans get ready for season’s start this week

IRON RIVER—During his many years as assistant coach, Dave Graff was renowned for his halftime adjustments that turned the tide in tough times for Forest Park’s football team.    Now, in his first year as head coach, Graff has to make just such an adjustment before the season even kicks off.    Bad luck bit the Trojans during a scrimmage with West Iron County and Florence at Nelson Field here Aug. 22 when fullback/middle linebacker Adam Hilberg was lost for at least a month. Hilberg broke his left arm near the wrist when he attempted to tackle an opponent.    The Trojans, Wykons and Florence scrimmaged for a little more than an hour under gloomy skies.    It was their final dress rehearsal: Forest Park’s season starts at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, when Bark River-Harris visits Dick Mettlach Field.  To view more, please log in or subscribe to the digital edition.

“Pleased to meet you!” Several Forest Park players introduce themselves to a West Iron running back. They say first impressions are the most lasting.
