Wykons, Trojans get ready for season’s start this week

IRON RIVER—Last week’s cloudy, murky weather didn’t do West Iron’s girls tennis team much good. Of three matches on their schedule, two of them were lost due to the weather (Aug. 20 at Ishpeming; Aug. 22, home vs. Negaunee).    But conditions were good enough for an Aug. 21 match at Kingsford, and the Wykons played the Division 1 powerhouse Flivvers to a 4-4 tie.    “I couldn’t be happier with the girls today,” Coach Denise Spelgatti said later. “This is the best score against Kingsford we have had in many years.”   To view more, please log in or subscribe to the digital edition.
