Wykons show improvement in second win

IRON RIVER—In last week’s season-opening win, the West Iron County football team gave an admittedly uneven performance. The defense was excellent but the offense was spotty at best, and the energy level was not up to par in the coaches’ eyes.
So head coach Mike Berutti let his team know during the week lead-up to the second game against Bark River-Harris that more was expected. And he got it, as his team gave a much better all-around display and rolled to a 28-7 win over the Broncos in a West Pac Conference Iron Division game on Aug. 31 in Harris.
“I know there are going to be peaks and valleys during the season, but I got on them a little bit during the week because I didn’t think they were mentally ready to play (against Munising in the opener),” Berutti said. “It was better this week. We were more focused and came off the bus ready to play football. I liked our enthusiasm, and I liked the effort they gave.”
