Wykons finish dominant West Pac season

IRON RIVER—One team was head-and-shoulders above all the rest in the West Pac Conference this fall, a team that won every game by at least two touchdowns and which trailed only briefly in just one game.
That team was the West Iron County Wykons, who capped their dominant conference run by hammering Hancock 46-6 on Oct. 17 to secure their second straight West Pac title.
Jake Polich ran for two touchdowns, while Brandon Olson, Riley Thomson, Alec Schmelebeck and Rusty Johnson added one each as the Wykons (8-0, 6-0) extended their regular-season winning streak to 19 on a rainy, cold night at McAfee Field in Hancock.
West Iron has not lost a conference game since Oct. 5, 2012, the last time the Wykons lost any regular-season contest. With the win over the Bulldogs, the Wykons will enter next season with a 13-game West Pac winning streak intact. It was West Iron’s third league championship in the last four years.
