CRYSTAL FALLS/IRON RIVER — Both the Lady Wykons and Lady Trojans are playing exciting volleyball, have winning records and are giving their fans a reason to cheer. With a number of home games remaining on their schedules, both teams have already established themselves as consistent winners.
The Wykons are off to a 2–1 start, and combine talent with teamwork. They have a number of players who can serve up aces and work together when the ball is in play.
Their most recent victory took place Sept. 5 against Gwinn.
“Our passing has been improving, which allows our setters to be more consistent and afford the attackers more and better opportunities for kills,” said Haiden Gill, a senior at West Iron and one of three servers to garner six aces, after the victory. “This is definitely showing in our stats.”
Two other servers, Lily DeSousa and Rowyn Fiszer, also garnered six aces while Sidney Storti and Haylie Murillo had seven and six kills respectively. The Wykons won  25–14, 25–19 and 25–22.
The Lady Trojans continue to impress and are working to maintain a perfect record.
“We won in three [matches] tonight over North Dickinson,” Coach Bobbie Anderson said after the team’s Sept. 12 victory over North Dickinson. “They played hard and had some great digs.”
Charlie Larson recorded 14 assists against North Dickinson, Elsie Williams had 16 assists and Leah Feldhausen had 10 kills. The Trojans took the match in three games: 25–18, 25–15 and 25–16.
With a record of 4–0, the Lady Trojans have not been tested with too much rigorous competition thus far this year. While they are clearly a team to beat and are accruing victories, the lack of competitive play could be a challenge in pushing them to play their best.
“Unfortunately for us we’ve only had four regular season games and are now entering a week with no games,” Anderson said. “It’s hard to keep the momentum building when our games are so spaced out.”
While the Lady Trojans may be worried about momentum, the opposing teams are worried about playing against them.
