WIC golfers win at Pine Grove

IRON RIVER—West Iron County’s golf team earned its first team victory of the season May 8 at the Pine Grove course near Iron Mountain. No team scores were available.
    West Iron was led by Noah Thomson, who earned medalist honors by shooting a 40. Trey Bociek was third with a 43.
    They were followed by Brayden Nelson (50), Robbie Quayle (50) and Peyton Williams (52). Sawyer Perpich of Kingsford was second with a score of 42.
    West Iron’s girls team also played at Iron Mountain May 8. No team scores were available.
    Michelle Wiegand had West Iron’s best score, a 57. Breanna Kemppainen shot a 69, followed by Lillie Stapleton (80), Mya Grubbs (83) and Anna Malmquist (83).
    ● On May 9, the Wykon boys were sixth and the girls were eighth at the Negaunee Kiwanis Invitational, held at the Northern Michigan course at Chocolay Downs.
    Bociek led the Wykon boys with an 80, taking eighth place. Thomson followed with an 88, Berlinski shot 94; Quayle, 96; and Nelson, 98.
    The girls team was led by Wiegand’s score of 111. She was followed by Kemppainen at 122, Malmquist at 123 and Grubbs and Stapleton, both at 148.
