WIC golf shines at West Pac championships

IRON MOUNTAIN—It’s been a stellar spring for the West Iron County golf teams and their performances at the West Pac Conference championships at TimberStone Golf Course in Iron Mountain on May 21 were no different.
Both the Wykon boys and girls teams won the team championships, while sophomores Nathan Thomson and Tori Bociek earned medalist honors for coach Mark Martini’s crew.
Throw in the fact that both the girls and boys placed four golfers each on the all-conference squads and it was a heck of a day for West Iron golf.
Martini knows what he has this spring.
“Just hanging around the girls and boys on this year’s team, I could do that for the rest of my life, they’re that good,” Martini said after last week’s invitationals at Young’s.
At TimberStone, Thomson carded a 77 to win medalist honors, three strokes in front of brother Noah Thomson, teammate Trey Bociek and Jiseung Choi of Houghton.
Peyton Williams continued to contribute heavily to the boys squad with a ninth at 88, while Robbie Quayle finished 13th with a 93.
The Thomsons, Bociek and Williams all made the 10-player all-West Pac Conference team.
