WIC 8th graders record first win
IRON RIVER—The West Iron County eighth-grade boys basketball team scored its first victory of the season with a 33-11 rout of North Dickinson on Nov. 12 at Felch.
As it turned out, the Wykons recorded as many points at they’d need by the second quarter after registering 11 in the first. Spencer Kegley scored six of his eight points in the opening period, while Brayden Marcell logged seven of his team-high nine points in the third quarter.
Along with Kegley and Marcell’s production, Matthew Dutcher chipped in with eight points, while Payton Johnson and Jensen Buth added four each.
WIC’s seventh-grade squad dropped a 35-22 decision to the Nordics. The Wykons fell into a 10-2 hole after the first quarter and never recovered. Logan Bradshaw topped West Iron with seven points, while Andrew Spain contributed six.
On Nov. 13, both West Iron squads were defeated by Florence in a pair of home contests. In the seventh-grade game, the Wykons led 8-6 after the first quarter, but the Bobcats took over from there and eventually rolled past West Iron 44-19.
Drew Alexa paced WIC with 10 points, followed by Evan Dzanbozoff with four.
The Wykon eighth-graders also played competitively at first, forging an 18-all tie at the halftime break.
Nevertheless, Florence pulled away and defeated West Iron 44-22.
Marcell led the Wykons with eight points, while Dutcher and Kegley added four each.
