The West Iron Wykons and Forest Park Trojans will begin their high school athletic seasons on the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s official first day of practice, Monday, August 7th.
Coming off a successful year both the Trojans and Wykons are looking forward to taking their volleyball programs even deeper into the playoffs. Coaches Bobby Jo Anderson of Forest Park and Konnor Bjorkman of West Iron have high hopes for their teams and for good reason.  The Trojans finished their season with a phenomenal run which brought them just one match short of the state finals while the Wykons re-established their program defeating a number of high quality teams.
As both a teacher and coach, Trojans’ Anderson looks forward to the start of a new season, but also must reconcile that it means it is time to return to a very busy schedule. “The start of a new season is always bittersweet. It is the first sign that summer is ending and a new school year is beginning. However Coach Lindsey Anderson and I are excited and energized for another great season. The team is all in and ready to get to work!”
After two years of challenges, West Iron’s football program is ready to retake the field and is planning on fielding both a varsity and junior varsity program. With a strong sophomore class moving into their junior year, this is the year Wykon football should once again give the community a reason to cheer.
Forest Park’s eight man football team is once again expected to garner a winning record. Although the team lost eight seniors to graduation, Coach Brian Fabbry is optimistic, “We have a large number of new players who are looking forward to earning their spots.”
Cross Country teams will be fielded by both schools. Coach DJ Rasner of Forest Park is looking to build on last year’s inaugural year and has eight runners committed compared to last year’s three. “I am excited to see the program growing. Kids are starting to think about cross country as an option and if they have fun we will have a successful season.”
