Coming off a state semi-final appearance last year which saw the Lady Trojans of Forest Park come one match short of playing for the state championship, the Trojans have returned to play this fall and have not missed a beat. Thus far undefeated, on Saturday, Aug. 26 the Trojans won the Great Eight Volleyball Tournament in Kingsford for the first time since 2015, besting a number of high quality volleyball teams from the neighboring communities.
“The victory means a great deal to us,” Coach Bobbie Anderson said, reflecting on the team’s first Great Eight win in eight years. “It means the success and momentum from last year is still here. It builds confidence for our team and proves their hard work is paying off. Hopefully winning this invite is just the beginning of many great things this season.”
In their first two games this season, West Iron’s Konnor Bjorkman has her team playing competitively and working together as a team. In splitting their first two matches of the season, the Lady Wykons were victorious against Ishpeming and came up short despite playing a very competitive match against Calumet.
“Calumet is always our toughest competition, but tonight we made them work for their points,” Bjorkman said. “We had some great defensive touches, but needed to get more aggressive with our attacking. The girls had fun and are looking forward to their next match.”
