Two county runners earn wins at Bass Run

CRYSTAL FALLS—Two Iron County runners finished in first place July 8 when the annual Run Your Bass Off race was held at Runkle Lake Park.
    Mason Rintala, a Forest Park student, won the 10K “Full Bass” men’s competition, finishing in 39 minutes, 36.2 seconds. Victoria Harris of Iron River took top honors in the Half Bass race, winning in 25.38.5. Three other Iron County runners finished in the top five in that race.
    Rintala enjoyed a solid win over Drew Richmond of Iron Mountain, who was second in 40:46.8. Recent Forest Park student Coleton Mihelich, now from Kingsford, was third in 44:31.3.
    Harris also enjoyed a big margin in the women’s Half Bass. Her time was 25:38.5, over 3 minutes faster than second place Taylor Clark, a recent Forest Park grad from Crystal Falls, whose time was 28:57.4; Jessie Surface of Crystal Falls was third (30:44.6), and Kristin Stacy of Crystal Falls (32:10.2) claimed fifth.
    Winning the women’s Full Bass race was Jordan Holmes of Florence, whose winning time was 45:26.5. Kara Grace of Marquette was second (46:55.5) and Shayla Manitowabi-Huebner was third (47:07.3).
    The men’s Half Bass winner was Nikolas Thomas of Bruce Crossing, with a time of 24:47.4. Brad Kingman of Comstock Park (25:26.6) was second, and Kaleb Chipelewski of Marquette (26:22.9) took third. Gaastra’s Justin Sieger (26:45.7) was fourth.
