The Forest Park Trojans convincingly won their opening football game of the 2023 season with a resounding victory over the host Stephenson Eagles on Aug. 25.  With the rain providing a steady drumbeat the Trojans scored 31 first quarter points and never looked back.  When the final seconds ticked off the clock the Trojans had bested Stephenson 60–0.
“We played very well for the season opener,” Coach Brian Fabbri said. “The veteran players played well and the younger players competed throughout all four quarters”
The Trojans garnered over 400 total yards of offense, completed touchdown passes of more than 70 yards, recovered fumbles, intercepted passes and looked unstoppable on both sides of the ball.
“Defensively we flew all over the field, caused turnovers and made it tough going all of the game for Stephenson,” Fabbri said.
While the Trojans turned the ball over twice on fumbles, they played an otherwise flawless game. When Fabbri chose to kick extra points, freshmen Dietrich Rasner put his 130-pound frame into every kick and was a perfect four for four. An uncommon feat considering most teams do not kick extra points and having four opportunities in one game is rare.
Rasner is one of a host of freshmen who are already contributing and will be making a difference well into the future for the Trojans.  In addition to Rasner’s contribution, freshmen Vic Giuliani and Dax Huuki combined for 134 yards receiving and one touchdown.
While more challenging games are certainly ahead, to win the first game of the season in a convincing fashion bodes well for a fun fall for the Forest Park faithful.
