Trojans go OT to end Jets’ long winning streak
POWERS—For all those prep sports aficionados in the Upper Peninsula who were wondering which team was finally going to beat the North Central Jets in either football or basketball, now they have their answer.
It was the Forest Park Trojans football team.
Senior running back Connor Bortolini scored on a 10-yard run in overtime and added a 2-point conversion before sophomore linebacker Noah Gilner picked off a pass that sealed the historic win, as the Trojans ended North Central’s 28-game winning streak on the gridiron with a dizzying 66-58 victory here.
When Gilner picked off Jet quarterback Hunter Riley’s pass, it signaled the end of North Central’s almost surreal streak that included back-to-back 8-man football state championships, not to mention the basketball team’s current 83-game winning streak and back-to-back-to-back Class D state championships.
To say the win was emotional and important to the Trojans is an understatement that borders on the absurd.
