Trojans’ Rintala earns 1st, 2nd

CRYSTAL FALLS—Mason Rintala’s distance running earned a first and a second place for Forest Park’s boys track team in two meets last week.
    Forest Park was fifth in the boys division and sixth in girls at the Norway Invitational on May 7.
    Rintala led the way for the Trojan boys with his second place finish in the 1600 run. His time was 5 minutes, 13.02 seconds.
    The Trojan boys claimed third place in five separate events: Max Nylund in the 200 (25.40), Connor Bortolini in pole vault (9 feet, 6 inches), Tyler Peltoma in discus (109-8), the 800 relay team (1:43.09; Nylund, C.J. Post, Bortolini, Peter Ropiak) and the 400 relay team (49.31; Hunter Reed, Post, Bortolini, Ropiak).
    Fourth went to Robert Ponchaud in shot put. Fifths were earned by Rintala in the 800, Nylund in long jump and the 1600 relay team.
    Norway ran away with the boys team title, with 139.5 points, far ahead of North Central (82) and Northwood Storm (63). Forest Park was fifth with 48 points.
    The Trojan girls won one event at Norway, with the 3200 relay taking first place in 11:47.50. Runners were Taylor Clark, Cassie Divine, Amaya Johnson and Kristin Stacy.
    Thirds were earned by Stacy in the 800 (2:46.09), Clark in the 3200 (14:08.88), Maddie Scarlassara in pole vault (5-6) and the 1600 relay (4:50.56; Hannah Cross, Scarlassara, Mercedes Simmons, Stacy).
