Trojan golfers look to compete again

CRYSTAL FALLS—Last year, the Forest Park Trojan golf teams came within a few strokes of winning Division 3 U.P. titles. The girls finished runner-up, just nine strokes in back of Ontonagon and the boys ended up four strokes back of co-champions Ontonagon and Cedarville.
Though it’s a new season with some new players, FP coach Harold Payne said his teams are capable of staying in the mix.
“Assistant Coach Pat Sommers and I have high hopes for this year’s teams. Everyone is eager to get on the course and play. Hopefully, the weather will finally cooperate.”
The first week of the golf season was suspended because of poor conditions on area courses. But there will be no time to waste when conditions do improve.
“We have much to accomplish in a short time as our season is but four weeks long,” Payne said. “Our conference meet is in three weeks, with the U.P. Finals in a month.”
