Three West Iron girls honored in West Pac picks

IRON RIVER—Three West Iron County girls basketball players were honored by West Pac Conference coaches when the 2019-20 all-conference teams were selected March 2.
    Senior center Emily Nelson was selected to the dream team, while senior guard Anna Malmquist was picked to the first team in the Copper Division and junior forward Jordan Shamion was given honorable mention.
    Nelson scored 13.5 points per game with a high game of 21, while Malmquist averaged 11.2 ppg. with a high of 18 and Shamion scored 7 ppg. with a high of 13.
    Nelson was also selected to the West Pac all-defensive team, which was started by league coaches this year instead of picking one defensive player of the year.
    Westwood senior Tessa Leece was named player of the year in the league for the second straight season, while Patriots coach Kurt Corcoran was picked as coach of the year.
    Also selected to the dream team were Alyssa Hill (Negaunee, sophomore center), Ellie Djerf (Calumet, junior guard), Marissa Delmont (Gwinn, senior guard) and Madelyn Koski (Westwood, senior guard).
    The rest of the Copper Division’s first team included: Maryellen Trewhella (Houghton, junior guard), D’Andra Kero (Hancock, senior forward), Jana Loukus (Calumet, sophomore guard) and Marybeth Halonen (Calumet, sophomore forward).
    The Iron Division’s first team included: Chloe Norman (Negaunee, senior guard), Natalie Prophet (Westwood, sophomore forward), Emily Curtice (Gwinn, senior guard), Karlie Patron (Westwood, senior forward), Emma Poirier (Ishpeming, senior guard) and Reagan Lundholm (Iron Mountain, senior guard).
    The remainder of the honorable mention picks were Stella Wickstrom (Houghton, freshman forward), Taylor Sebbas (Hancock, senior forward) and Lizzie Torola (Calumet, sophomore center).
    The rest of the all-defensive team included Westwood’s Leece, Negaunee’s Norman, Gwinn’s Curtice and Calumet’s Djerf.
