Tennis team starts strong

IRON RIVER—West Iron’s boys tennis team started its season April 20 by finishing first in its pool at the truncated Yooper Classic tennis tournament on the indoor courts in Marinette.
But winter weather even managed to disrupt the indoor meet. One of the domes was closed because of concern over a possible collapse due to snow buildup. Teams got to play for 45 minutes against each team in the other dome, with a running tally on games won.
West Iron won 14 of the 16 matches in its pool, defeating Menominee 8-0 and Escanaba 6-2. There was no crossover with the other pool, which was won by Westwood.
The Wykons had six champions: Neil Tomasoski in first singles, Holden Ross in second singles and all four of its doubles teams: Brandon Henschel-Kevin Ballinger at first; Tyler McCarthy-James Swanson at second; Steven Nelson-Caden Pellizzer at third; and Christian Benson-Mitch Ballinger at fourth.
