Showers, Scarlassara honored on all-U.P. team

IRONWOOD — Forest Park senior Tommy Showers was selected to the 2020 Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters 8-man football dream team as a defensive end while senior Gabe Scarlassara was named to first team as a defensive lineman.
    Showers was also selected as the first team kicker.
    The Trojans finished their abbreviated season at 4-2, having only actually played three games. Forest Park went 2-1 in those contests, with the rest being forfeits caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
    North Central dominated the UPSSA squads. The undefeated Jets, who are still alive in the playoffs, garnered six dream team selections, including offensive player of the year -- sophomore quarterback Luke Gorzinski.
    North Central coach Leo Gorzinski was picked as coach of the year and the Jets were named the team of the year.
