Rain no water hazard for these hardy golfers
IRON RIVER—With the threat of rain looming over the fairways, 46 golfers from the Iron River Country Club Twilight League, Oak Crest Golf Course and George Young Recreational Complex took to the links for the annual Twilight League Invitational Aug. 1.
Taking first place with a low score of 83 were Marian Lindquist and Amy Johnson of GYRC. Second and third place, selected by random draw, went to Jan Frighetto and Karen Polley and Karen Friestrom and Marilyn Malmquist, all members of the Twilight League.
Nine-hole winners were Carolyn Lindahl and Deb Snow, Twilight League members.
Basket winners were Bonnie Weatherholt of GYRC (basket donated by Patti Sabotta and Kathy Jacobs), Marla Busakowski of IRCC Twilight League (basket donated by Lisa Arnell) and Karen Petts of IRCC Twilight League (basket donated by Marsha Bracket and Karen Petts).
Soda, water and ice cream to “make your own sundae” were donated to the event by the Twilight League’s Golfing for a Cause Committee, chaired by Patti Sabotta.
A barbecue rib dinner with “all the fixings” was provided by IRCC caterer Tony Kolbas.
Several door prizes were also part of the afternoon’s event including a one-night stay at the AmericInn, sleeves of golf balls from the First National Bank and Trust of Iron River and other prizes donated by the Twilight League.
The Twilight League Board thanked the golfers for attending the event and noted that next year’s Invitational will be held the first Tuesday in August.
Up next for the Twilight League is the President’s Cup on Tuesday, Aug. 8. Sports Committee members are Kelly Possanza, Lisa Arnell and Allyce Westphal.
