The Forest Park Lady Trojans deserved a break. On Feb. 13, in a game against Rapid River, they finally got one. Having lost 14 times this season, but five times by five or fewer points, the Trojans have been playing competitive basketball and falling just short on too many occasions.

After recently losing four in a row and five of their last six the Lady Trojans of Forest Park could not have ordered up a better opponent than the Rapid River Rockets. The Rockets entered the contest with a record of 1 and 14 and are suffering through one of their most challenging seasons in years.

The Trojans (6-14) entered the contest on a losing streak, having most recently suffered a 67 to 30 drubbing at the hands of their archrivals, the Wykons of West Iron. The game went south quickly when their starting point guard, Elsie Williams, took ill in the first quarter and the Trojans could not recover. Forest Park was excited to see her return to the floor against the Rockets.

As the game got underway, the Trojans wasted no time establishing a lead. In the first quarter, the they tallied 22 points to Rapid River’s four. By halftime, the Trojans were leading 33 to 5.
Of the 14 Forest Park players who suited up for the contest, 11 scored. Freshman Vienna Price, a standout athlete who is quickly learning the varsity game, scored 10, while Sophomore Elsie Williams put up 18 and Junior Lilly Post tallied seven.

The game which the Trojans had been waiting for arrived and with it a bit of energy has been put in their tank. Coach Kim Bjork could not have been more pleased with the victory, “Everyone was able to get some minutes and contribute. It was nice to bring up some of our JV players and see them make some plays. Our team needed this win!”

Trojan Lilly Post reflected after the game, “It was good to get an easy win and to get everyone on the court. We hope the energy continues into Districts.”
