Lady Trojans start 0-2

CRYSTAL FALLS—Two tough cookies were on the plate when Forest Park’s girls started their basketball season on the road last week. Result? The team enters this week with an 0-2 record, both overall and in the Skyline Central Conference.
Coach Jackie Giuliani’s young team lost a close one at North Central on Nov. 28, 51-47, and couldn’t overcome a slow start at Bark River-Harris on Dec. 1, falling 53-41.
“Unfortunately,” the coach noted, “we played two of the top teams in the conference right away, to start our season. When you have a young group of girls without a lot of varsity experience, that’s a lot of pressure to put on them.”
At North Central, it was close all night. The teams were tied 17-17 at halftime, but the Jets edged ahead with a 17-14 third quarter and held off Forest Park down the stretch.
After falling behind by 10 in the fourth quarter, 3-pointers from Claudia Nocerini and Taylor Honkala got the Lady Trojans back into it. On defense, FP turned up its defensive play, pressuring in the backcourt and getting steals.
