Lady Trojans split pair on the road

CRYSTAL FALLS—Forest Park’s girls took their act on the road last week, winning a 44-40 thriller at Carney-Nadeau on Jan. 29 before falling victim to Kingsford’s aggressive defense in a 55-37 loss Feb. 1.
The Lady Trojans are now 7-7 overall and 6-4 against other Skyline Central Conference teams.
At Carney, Forest Park trailed by three at halftime, 19-16, but rallied back in the third quarter and took a 27-25 lead into the fourth quarter.
In the end, it came down to free throw shooting: While the Wolves only made 2 of 7 at the line in the final two minutes, Forest Park got 3 of 4 from Taylor Honkala down the stretch.
“In the second half our press got to them, and we had some really good steals that secured the lead for us,” FP coach Jackie Giuliani reported. “Then we hit free throws to keep the lead.”
Another key play was a back-door pass from Hannah Cross to Mercedes Simmons for a key basket.
