Lady Trojan JVs win in double overtime

CRYSTAL FALLS—Sydney Honkala scored four of Forest Park’s five points in the second overtime, boosting the Lady Trojan JVs to a 47-44 win over Carney-Nadeau in their home opener Dec. 5.
    Coach Kim Bjork’s squad jumped out to a 14-8 first quarter lead, but after trailing by four at halftime, Carney made up ground with an 8-3 third quarter to lead it 25-24. Forest Park tied it 34-34 after regulation and matched Carney 8-8 in the first OT, then had a 5-2 edge in the second.
    Mercedes Simmons led Forest Park with 26 points, including seven in the second quarter and six in both the fourth and the first overtime. Honkala scored six in the first quarter, leading FP’s quick start. Caitlyn Bloomburg scored six for the Trojans.
    Simmons was the Lady Trojans’ star in a 50-38 win over Kingsford on Dec. 8. She led the team with 27 points and 12 rebounds while shooting 13 of 19 from the floor and earning seven steals. Honkala backed her up with 17 points, including two 3-pointers and eight boards. She hit on 5 of her 9 field goal tries.
